When Should You Repair Your Air Conditioner and When Should You Replace It

Your air conditioner is chugging away through another Edmonton summer and suddenly the cool air stops coming out. You call an AC professional to come out to take a look and by the time it’s all said and done you’re going to have to pay a chuck of change for the repair. So when do you give up and just upgrade your current air conditioning equipment?

Naturally the older the system the more it’s likely to breakdown and lose efficiency. Air conditioning systems over eight years old are now much less efficient than the more recent energy-efficient systems available today. Additionally, if your system is more than 15 years old, odds are you are going to invest more money over time to keep it operating than if you just invested in a new, energy-efficient air conditioning system.

To keep on topic with the above provincement, ultimately it’s going to begin costing more to buy parts and repair issues than it would to just purchase a new AC system. Another issue to remember is R-22, the common refrigerant for old cooling equipment, is being phased out for the welfare of the environment. If your AC was manufactured before 2010, you will most likely see a spike in the fee for your refrigerant until you upgrade your system.
